A recall is issued whenever a problem is detected with a vehicle that could negatively impact its performance or result in hazardous conditions. Automotive recalls may be generated as a result of the manufacturer’s own internal quality control processes or at the direction of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The NHTSA maintains a website of current vehicle recalls for the benefit of consumers nationwide.
Most recall problems can be fixed by simply replacing the damaged or malfunctioning part with a newly manufactured component. This service is carried out free of charge to the consumer by the manufacturer via their dealerships and other designated repair facilities.
